Story
For years, our founders witnessed a deep educational divide – where the children of daily-wage workers missed out on schooling due to financial and social barriers. Determined to change this, we began Smt. Savitribai Phule Vidyalay in 2003 at Diva, Thane, a rural pocket near Mumbai, to make learning accessible to every child, regardless of their background.
What started as a small learning center has now become a beacon of hope. Each classroom tells a story – of resilience, curiosity, and community support.
Why The
Name?
Driven by a vision of equality, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule opened the first indigenous school for girls in 1848. His wife, Savitribai Phule, stood at the forefront of this revolution, defying social norms to become India’s first woman teacher.
With deep respect for these eminent educationalists, our school proudly carries their name. Her courage and compassion continue to inspire us in our mission to educate and uplift every child, challenging the conservative social norms to bring light to the next generation.
Why Diva?
In 2003, Diva faced significant developmental challenges. The local economy relied heavily on daily-wage labor, and extreme financial instability made education a secondary priority for many families. Furthermore, the high cost of private schooling created a barrier that left many underprivileged children without access to basic learning.
We recognized the urgent need to tap this rural gap. By bringing the school directly to the community, we removed the barrier of affordability with zero capitation fees and created a child-centric educational haven.
